This criteria air pollutant is a gas formed when nitrogen oxides react with a group of air pollutants known as reactive organic substances in the presence of sunlight. The chemicals that react to form this criteria air pollutant come from sources such as motor vehicle exhaust, oil refining, printing, petrochemicals, lawn mowing, aviation, bushfires and intentional burning. Motor vehicle exhaust fumes produce as much as 70% of the nitrogen oxides. What is this air pollutant?

The gas formed in the presence of sunlight, when "nitrogen oxides" react with a "group of air pollutants" is known as ozone which is an reactive organic substances.

The nitrogen oxides are gases that are formed in the atmosphere due to combustion of substances, vehicle exhaust, and also because of the growth of microorganisms.

There is more than 70% of the nitrogen oxide that is produced in the atmosphere due to vehicle exhaust.
