this is a HOTS question from chapter Snake and the mirror : How did the doctor loose his self pride when the snake landed on his shoulder?

When the snake fell down on his shoulder, swelling around his left arm, with its hood less than 4 inches from the Dr face. He saw that it was a cobra. The doctor did not move but started praying to God because he realizes that he did not have any medicine for Snake bite. He thought of himself as a stupid doctor..

When the snake landed on him , he did not tremble, he did not cry out also. He sat there holding his breath like a stone image in flesh. He was not aware of his 'earthshaking ' decisions. He also felt that he was a stupid doctor, because he didn't keep emergency medicines.
