Answer:

The valancy of the elements depend upon the properties of those elements as well as their electronic configuration.

Sodium and Aluminium both are metals.Their electronic configurations are  [Ne] 3s1 and [Ne] 3s2 3p1 respectively. based on the concept of valancy, the valancy of the element is the no of electrons it donates when bonded with a hydrogen atom.Sodium transfers one electron and hence has valency as 1.The same applies for aluminium.

The electronic configuration of chlorine and potassium is [Ne] 3s2 3p5 and  [Ar] 4s1 respectively.Since chlorine is a non-metal,we use the valancy rule and get the valancy of chlorine as 1 [ 8-7=1].For potassium, since it is a metal, the valency is 1.

From this,we can conclude that the valency of any two elements does not depend upon the number of elements between them .

hope it helps and pls mark as brainliest:)
