Let the present age of Manish be x
and that of Savita be y
1st condition:-
x+y = 31. -----(1)
2nd condition
3 years ago Manish's age was x - 3
and that of Savita was y-3
so x-3 = 4(y-3)
x-3 = 4y - 12
x-4y = -12+3
x-4y = -9. ------(2)
Now,
Multiply equation 1 by 4
4x + 4y = 124. -----(3)
4x + 4y = 124
+ x - 4y = -9
-------------------
so, 5x = 115
x = 115/5
x = 23
substituting x =23 in equation (1)
so, 23 + y = 31
y = 31-23
y = 8
so the age of Manish is x = 23 yrs
and that of Savita is y = 8 yrs
Final answer :-
Present ages of Manish and Savita is 23 yrs and 8 yrs respectively
