A number has two digits. The digit at tens place is four times the digit at units 11/4 place. If 54 is subtracted from the number, the digits are reversed. Find the original and new number.

Answer:

the number will be 10x+y

4x=y

and

(10x+y)-54=10y+x

therefore

9x-9y=54

=

9(x-y)=54

x-4x=6(substituting 4x=y)

-3x=6

x=(-2)

y = 8

the number is 28
