Though the prison of Bastille had a handful of prisoners, who were released by the protesting French people, why is its storming on 14th July, 1789 has gone down in the annals of history as a moment of celebration?

On 14 July, 1789, the people stormed the fortress prison at Bastille (in Paris) because it stood for the status of monarchy. Also it had revolutionary prisoners in it. People though that it also had hoard of weapons. It stood as a symbol of king and his autocratic and absolutist rule
