Though there is no gain in mechanical advantage by using single fixed pulley it is used in practice. Why?​

A single fixed pulley is used to lift load by changing the direction of the lifting force. Even though a single fixed pulley has no mechanical gain in that, the effort applied is greater than the load, it is preferred in use since you do not have to pull or push the pulley up and down.

Explanation:

Although there is no gain in mechanical advantage, but due to following reasons, we are using single fixed pulley:

 

To raise a load directly upward is difficult, so applying effort in the downward direction ( even we can use our own weight for the effort), we can move the load upwards conveniently.

Used to change the direction of force applied to a more convenient direction
