Three beakers namely a, b and
c. each contain 100 ml of milk 1 m water solution. the ratio of milk to water in the beakers a, b and c is 1 : 3, 1 : 4 and 2 : 3 respectively. 40 ml of solution is transferred from beaker a to beaker c and than 28 ml of solution is transferred from beaker c to beaker
b. find the final ratio of milk in the beakers a, b and
c.

Each beaker has 100 ml of milk and water solution


BREAKER A:

Breaker A = Milk : Water = 1 : 3

Milk = 1/4 x 100 = 25 ml

Water = 3/4 x 100 = 75 ml


BREAKER B:

Breaker B = Milk : Water = 1 : 4

Milk = 1/5 x 100 = 20 ml

Water = 4/5 x 100 = 80 ml


BREAKER C:

Breaker C = Milk : Water = 2 : 3

Milk = 2/5 x 100 = 40 ml

Water = 3/5 x 100 = 60 ml

40ML OF SOLUTION IS TRANSFER FROM BEAKER A TO C:

Milk Transferred = 1/4 x 40 = 10ml

Water Transferred = 3/4 x 40 = 30 ml


Breaker A:

Milk = 25 - 10 = 15 ml

Water = 75 - 30 = 45 ml


Breaker C:

Milk = 40 + 10 = 50 ml

Water = 60 + 30 = 90 ml


New Ratio of Beaker C:

New Ratio = 50 : 90

(Simplify by dividing by 10)

Ratio = 5 : 9

28 ML OF SOLUTION IS TRANSFERRED FROM BEAKER C to B

Milk transferred = 5/14 x 28 = 10 ml

Water transferred = 9/14 x 28 = 18 ml


Beaker C:

Milk = 50 - 10 = 40 ml

Water = 90 - 18 = 72 ml


Beaker B:

Milk = 20 + 10 = 30 ml

Water = 80 + 18 = 98 ml

Milk in Beaker A = 15 ml

Milk in Beaker B = 30 ml

Milk in Beaker C = 40 ml

Ratio of Milk in Beaker A : B : C = 15 : 30 : 40
