Given : three bottling plants are making similar bottles. plants A makes 12 bottles per minute, plant B makes 7 bottles per minute and plant c makes 19. It cost 8 cents per bottle for plant A, 5 cents per bottle for plant B and 11 cents per bottle for plant c

To find : which plant along will be the most efficient

Solution:

plants A makes 12 bottles per minute,

Bottles Made in 1 Hr = 12*60 = 720

Bottle Cost = 8 cent   ,  bodyguard Cost = $ 30

Cost of 720 Bottle = 720 * 8/100   +  30    = 87.6 $

Per bottle Cost = 87.6/720 = 12.167 cents

plants B makes 7 bottles per minute,

Bottles Made in 1 Hr = 7*60 =420

Bottle Cost = 5 cent   ,  bodyguard Cost = $ 30

Cost of 420 Bottle = 420 * 5/100   +  30    =51 $

Per bottle Cost = 51/420 = 12.14 cents

plants C makes 19 bottles per minute,

Bottles Made in 1 Hr = 19*60 =1140

Bottle Cost = 11 cent   ,  bodyguard Cost = $ 30

Cost of 1140 Bottle = 1140 * 11/100   +  30    = 155.4 $

Per bottle Cost = 155.4/ 1140 = 13.63 cents

12.14 is least Cost

Plant B is most Efficient

But if only 120 bottle is to be made then Cost of body guard per bottle

= 30/120 =  25 cent per bottle ( as each plant can make 120 bottle in 1 hr )

Hence Plant B will be most efficient again

Answer:

Plant A

100 minutes to produce 1200 bottles (1200/12)

100 minutes / 60 = 1.67 hours = 2 hours

Cost = (2 hours x $30/hour) + ($0.08/bottle x 1200 bottles)

$60 + $96 = $156

Plant B

171.4 minutes to produce 1200 bottles (1200/7)

171.4 minutes / 60 = 2.86 hours = 3 hours

Cost = (3 hours x $30/hour) + ($0.05/bottle x 1200 bottles)

$90 + $60 = $150

Plant C

63.2 minutes to produce 1200 bottles (1200/19)

63.2 minutes / 60 = 1.05 hours = 2 hours

Cost = (2 hours x $30/hour) + ($0.11/bottle x 1200 bottles)

$60 + $132 = $192
