Answer:

We can visualise it being a right angled triangle.

here, altitude= height of pole=5m

base=length from the foot of the pole to where rope is to be connected=3.5m

and hypotenuse= length of the rope itself.

By pythogoras theorem,

altitude^{2} + base^{2} = hypotenuse^{2}

so,we need to find the hypotenuse.

thus,hypotenuse=\sqrt{base^{2}+ altitude^{2}  }

\sqrt{25+12.25}=\sqrt{37.25}=6.1m

so, length of the rope is 6.1m

Hope it helps!!!

Step-by-step explanation:

Let y = 100

Then reduction = 20% = 20

Then x = 100 – 20 = 80

(i)x/y = 80/100 = 4/5 (Diving by 20)

(ii) (y – x)/y = (100 – 80)/100

= 20/100

= 1/5 (Dividing by 20)

(iii) x/(y – x)

= 80/(100 – 80)

= 80/20

= 4/1 = 4 (Dividing by 20)
