bananas are equal in number. Chikkus are double that of bananas. Pears are 3/4 of that
of chikkus and bananas together. If total number of fruits in three containers is 1000 how
many pears and chikkus are there?

1

The number of pears and chikkus are 360 and 320 respectively

Option 2

Solution:

Let "a" be the number of manogoes

Let "b" be the number of bananas

Let "c" be the number of chikkus

Let "d" be the number of pears

Mangoes and  bananas are equal in number

Therefore,

a = b ----- eqn 1

Chikkus are double that of bananas

Therefore,

c = 2b ------ eqn 2

Pears are 3/4 of that  of chikkus and bananas together

d = \frac{3}{4}(b+c) ---- eqn 3

Total number of fruits in three containers is 1000

a + b + c + d =1000 ------- eqn 4

Substitute eqn 1 , 2, 3 in eqn 4

b + b + 2b + \frac{3}{4}(b + 2b) = 1000\\\\4b + \frac{3}{4} \times 3b = 1000\\\\4b + \frac{9b}{4} = 1000\\\\16b + 9b = 4000\\\\25b = 4000\\\\b = 160

Substitute b = 160 in eqn 2

c = 2(160)

c = 320

Substitute b = 160 and c = 320 in eqn 3

d = \frac{3}{4}(160+320)\\\\d = \frac{3}{4} \times 480\\\\d = 3 \times 120\\\\d = 360

Thus number of pears and chikkus are 360 and 320 respectively
