Sir Surendranath Banerjee pronunciation (Bengali: সুরেন্দ্রনাথ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়) (10 November 1848 – 6 August 1925) was one of the earliest Indian political leaders during the British Raj. He founded the Indian National Association, through which he led two sessions of the Indian National Conference in 1883 and 1885, along with Anandamohan Bose. Banerjee later became a senior leader of the Indian National Congress. Surendranath also founded Indian National Liberation Federation. He was also known by the sobriquet Rashtraguru(রাষ্ট্রগুরু). He was editor of "The Bengali" newspaper.

Difference between Assertives and Moderates:
1. Assertives were staunch nationalists. They wanted to achieve Purna Swaraj whereas Moderates wanted only some reforms and self government under British umbrella.
2. Assertives always wanted to hold arms againtmst the British, whereas Moderates did not.
3. Moderates had immense faith on British sense of justice and fair play whereas Assertives did not have even a Finch of faith on British.
..
Anti partition movement was started by Surendranath Banerjee. People like Rabindranath Tagore (রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর) and Aurobindo Ghose (অরবিন্দ ঘোষ) proved that pen was mightier than sword. They, too, played an active role in anti partition movement.
Surendranath Banerjee edited the Bengalee for many years and criticized the Vernacular Press Act of 1878 and Illbert Bill fearlessly. He believed that Elective Offices were just means to serve people. He convened the Indian National Conference in 1883 which was the forerruner of Indian National Congress.
..
Methods of moderates:
They followed the method of Prayer, Petition and Plead. They put their needs in front of the British by resolutions and holding meetings, distributing leaflets and pamphlets, etc.
any problem regarding modern Indian history?
