Answer :

Three equal charges of 5μC are placed at three vertices of an equilateral triangle of side 5cm.

We have to find electric potential energy of the system.

★ Electric potential energy is a scalar quantity. While finding its value, the value of various charges must be substituted with their proper sign.

  • PE of two like charges is positive.
  • PE of two unlike charges is negative.

⭆ U = U₁₂ + U₂₃ + U₁₃

  • U₁₂ = U₂₃ = U₁₃ = k(q)(q)/r

⭆ U = 3kq²/r

⭆ U = [3(9×10⁹)(5×10‾⁶)²]/0.05

⭆ U = 675×10‾³/0.05

⭆ U = 13500 × 10‾³

U = 13.5 J

Cheers!
