Some of the major approaches of social change in India are as follows: 1. Evolutionary Approaches 2. Cultural Approaches 3. Structural Approaches 4. Dialectical-Historical Approach.

Yogendra Singh’s book Modernization of Indian Tradition (1973) and his essay on the concepts and theories of social changes (1974) are adequate sources to get acquainted with the major processes of social change in India.

Singh classifies approaches to social change as follows:
