Spring Tides:- When the Sun,Earth and Moon are in a straight line as they are at full moon and new moon, the gravitational force is at its greatest because of combined force of Sun and Moon as they are pulling together. At this time the high tide is very high and low tide is very low. These types of tides are called Spring Tides.

Spring tides occur twice each lunar month all year long, without regard to the season.

Seven days after a spring tide, the sun and moon are at right angles to each other.

Neap Tides:- When the Sun, Earth and Moon are not in a straight line, the Sun and Moon are not exerting combined force i. e., they are not pulling together and the gravitational pull is much less. At half moon, that is when the Sun and Moon are pulling at right angles, the force exerted is at its least and the difference between high and low tide is not large. These are called Neap Tides.

Seven days after a spring tide, the sun and moon are at right angles to each other. When this happens, the bulge of the ocean caused by the sun partially cancels out the bulge of the ocean caused by the moon. This produces moderate tides known as neap tides, meaning that high tides are a little lower and low tides are a little higher than average.

Neap tides occur during the first and third quarter moon, when the moon appears "half full."
