Three resistors 2 Ω, 4 Ω and 6 Ω in
series are connected in series across a
battery of emf 12 . Find
(a) the effective resistance,
(b) the potential difference across
each resistor.

Explanation:

Ra = 2 Ω,Rb = 4 Ω and Rc = 6 Ω.

(a) Rs = Equivalent resistance of series = Ra + Rb + Rc = 2 Ω + 4 Ω + 6 Ω = 12Ω.

(b) emf = 12V.

Rs = 12Ω.

I = V/Rs = 12/12 = 1A.

V = I × R.

Va = 1 × 2 = 2V.

Vb = 1 × 3 = 3V.

Vc = 1 × 6 = 6V.
