in series

2 ohm + 3 ohm + 4 ohm = 9 ohm

in parallel

=1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4

= 6+3+4/12

=12/13

=0.92 ohm

hope it helps you

Given,

2 Ω, 3 Ω, and 4 Ω are connected in series and parallel.

To find,

Equivalent resistance in series and parallel.

Solution,

  • If the n resistors are connected in series, then equivalent resistance is calculated by  R1 + R2 + R3+ till Rn.
  • Similarly, the equivalent resistance of 2 Ω, 3 Ω, and 4 Ω connected in series is-

⇒    R(series) = 2 Ω + 3 Ω + 4 Ω

⇒    R(series) = 9 Ω.

  • If the n resistors are connected in parallel, then equivalent resistance is calculated by  1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3+ till 1/Rn.
  • Similarly, the equivalent resistance of 2 Ω, 3 Ω, and 4 Ω connected in parallel is-

⇒   1/ (R(parallel)) = (1/2Ω). + (1/3Ω). + (1/4Ω).

⇒   1/ (R(parallel)) = ( 6 + 4 + 3 )/  (12Ω)

⇒   1/ (R(parallel)) = 13/ 12Ω

 (R(parallel)) = 12Ω/13 = 0.93 Ω

Hence, Equivalent resistance in series is R(series) = 9 Ω and Equivalent resistance in parallel is R(parallel) = 0.93 Ω
