Solution :

Given :

Mother is 3 times as old as her son.

After 5 years, Sum of their ages will be 70 years.

To Find :

Present ages of both.

Solution :

Let the present age of son be x years.

Now,

Present age of mother = 3 times of x = 3x years.

After 5 years,

Son's age = (x + 5) years.

Mother's age = (3x + 5) years.

⟹ (Mother's + Son's) Age = 70

⟹ 3x + 5 + x + 5 = 70

⟹ 4x + 10 = 70

⟹ 4x = 70 – 10

⟹ 4x = 60

⟹ x = 60/4

⟹ x = 15.

Now, Age of Mother :-

➠ 3x

➠ 3 × 15 = 45 years.

So, Present age of son is 15 years and Present age of mother is 45 years.

Final Answer :

  • Son's Age = 15 years.

  • Mother's Age = 45 years.
