from 1970 to 1973 the democracy was practiced in Chile. The leader improved the condition of living for people. He provided free milk for the poor children. 
In 1973 military took over. They controlled sea port, defence minister was arrested, the president as asked for resignation. Which he refused and as a result he was killed in bombing.
Then a referendum was held which was opposed by 90% of the people. so he was thrown too. So democratic rule was again established
