Under colonial rule, the commercial forestry emerged widely due to following reasons:


1)Oak forests in England were disappearing and the colonial government needed timber supply for navy and railways.


2)European planters got vast lands of forest under the low cost.


3)The government was worried about exploitation of forest by local people so they pro,noted species like teak and sal.
