Helen Keller was blind and deaf. Miss Annie Sullivan who was her teacher, had lifted Helen from the darkness she had lived in for years. Through the above said line she mean that she came out of darkness like the Hebrew people escaping from Egypt and stood before Miss Sullivan whom she compared to the God on Mount Sinai. She then metamorphically heard a voice speaking to her that knowledge is love , light and vision.
