Answer:

300 teenagers went to the zoo.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the no. of adults that went to the Zoo = x

No. of teenagers that went to the zoo = y

Then, no. of children that went to the zoo = 8y/3

According to the question

x + y + 8y/3 = 1200

or, x + 11y/3 = 1200

or, 3x + 11y = 3600   .............(1)

1 adult ticket costs = $6

1 teenager ticket costs = $5

1 child ticket costs = $4

Again

According to the question

6x + 5y + 32y/3 = 5300

or, 6x + 47y/3 = 5300

or, 18x + 47y = 15900   .............(2)

Multiplying eq (1) by 6 and subtracting from eq (2)

47y - 66y = 15900 - 21600

-19y = -5700

y = 5700/19 = 300

Therefore, 300 teenagers went to the zoo.

Hope this is helpful.
