plants and animals are interdependent

Plants convert sunlight into energy necessary to sustain life, which is the effort of organized molecules to remain organized. Entropy happens. That means everything falls apart sooner or later. Animals can only consume and use the molecules of plants and other animals, but the process is wasteful. After the animals finish eating each other there will be fewer, and fewer until there is just one. And then that one dies too.

Bacteria will still be around though.
