For this we need to know the total distance (D) and total time taken (T)
We can calculate the total distance (D) by adding the two gives distances 6km and 4 km. Hence the total distance is 10 km.
We know Speed = Distance/Time.
Calculating the time for the 1st distance of 6km.
Hence 4 = 6/Time; we calculate time from this equation to be 1.5 hours.
Similarly calculating time for the second distance,
Speed (3km/hr) = 4km/Time; we can calculate time to be 1.33 hours.
Hence Total Time Taken will be 1.5 hrs + 1.33 hrs = 2.83 hrs.
Average Speed for the entire journey = TOTAL DISTANCE/TOTAL TIME
= 10/2.83 = 3.53 Km/hr (this is your answer)
