1914-1918: Britain drags India into World War I. Sixty thousand Indians lose their lives in the First Great War. 1915: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi returns to India from South Africa; he sets up ashram in Ahmedabad the same year, which would shift to the site of the Sabarmati ashram two years later

Mahatma gandhi returned to India on Janary 1915

He went to Champaran in Bihar on 1916 to inspire peasants to struggle against the Oppressive plantation system.In 1917 he  organised a satyagraha to inspire the peasants of Kheda district of Gujarat.Affected by crop failure and plague epidemic the peasants could not pay their revenue.In 1918 he organised a satyagraha amongst the cotton mill workers.Rowlatt act was passed on 1919.Gandhiji passed a nation wide movement against this act on 6th April 1919.on 13th April 1919 the famous jallianwala Bagh incident took place.
