This couplet is from the mighty pen of great English poet and essayist Alexander Pope (1688 to 1744). The couplet comes from his well known essay titled An Essay on Criticism. Pope wants to point out the fact that the value judgments of persons are of great significance to them for we trust our own opinions as we trust our own watches in comparison with the others.
