let the required score be x

average score=total marks obtained/no of exams

i.e. 90=93+85+x/3

i.e. 90=178+x/3

270=178+x

x=270-178=92

hence he has to score 92 marks to clear the exam

Given - Score in two exams

Find - Score in third exam

Solution - Average = sum of all scores/total number of scores

Total number of scores = 3

Let the score in third exam be x.

Sum of all scores = 93 + 85 + x

Sum of all scores = 178 + x

90 = (178 + x)/3

Performing multiplication

178 + x = 90*3

178 + x = 270

Performing subtraction

x = 270 - 178

x = 92

Sonu needs 92 marks to clear competition.
