ANSWER:

Initiatives taken by the government to conserve forest resources are regulated and well planned cutting of trees, controlling forest fire, afforestation and reforestation, checking forest clearance for agricultural and habitation purposes, protecting forests resources, proper use of forest products, introduce laws/regulations related to forest conservation, among others.

EXPLANATION:

Inorder for government to conserve forest they must adopt the following methods:

  • Tree cutting must be planned properly such that and time gap between cuttings must be beneficial for re-growth of trees; 'trees of same age-group' must be cut down in the designated area and then it is marked for re-plantation, only mature trees must be selected for cutting, and this process must be followed in rotation.
  • So as to save forests from fire, it is crucial to adopt up-to-date methods of fire fighting. There should be trained staffs of fire fighters to regulate the fire.
  • Whenever trees are removed for wood or other purpose by selective or block cutting the stripped area should be re-forested. This can be undertaken by artificial or natural techniques. Likewise, any forested lands that have been destroyed by mining activities or fire must be re-forested.
