One way by which you can detect carbon-dioxide in the water sample is using burette titration method.  Fill the burette with standardized sodium hydroxide solution. Use a pipette to measure out 100 mL of the given water sample and fill it inside a conical flask. Add 10 drops of Phenolphthalein as an indicator to this flask. If there is colouration in the flask, it shows the presence of CO2.
