Methyl acetate on hydrolysis will give 2 molecules of acetic acid while ethyl acetate will give methanoic acid and ethanoic acid. On hydrolysis followed by iodoform reaction, ethyl ethanoate gives an yellow ppt of iodoform but methyl methanoate does not.
