Step-by-step explanation:

let the number because x and y

By 1st condition

X+y= 40.......1

By 2nd condition

x-y= 4.......2

By adding equation 1 and 2

x+y=40

x-y=4

2x=36

x=36/2

x=18

Put x=18 in equation 1

x+y=40

18+y=40

y=40-18

y= 22

The ratio of the number becomes

X/y and x:y

The ratio is 18/22= 9/11

9:11 us the ration of the number

Hope this is helpful.

have a nice day.
