In Ashoka's reign, the officials named Rajukas held an important place. In the administrative policy Ashoka implemented the Rajukas as main agency to execute his reform plans.

Rajukas originally were in charge of measurement of land and settled land disputes. They had a great influence in villages as they were connected with land revenue department. Thus when Ashoka was implementing the administrative policies he enhanced their powers and positions and made them solely responsible officers of Janapadas. Thus they looked after the judicial matters.
