4 pollen grains are produced through 1 meiotic division.
So 1 pollen grain is produced through 1/4 meiotic division.
therefore to produce 102 pollen grains , meiotic division required= 1/4×102
=25•5

Answer:26

Explanation:

1 division produces 4 pollen grains.

So 100 pollen grains will be produced by 100/4 = 25 divisions.

Now question is for 102 pollen grains.

Here many people have a misconception:- what they simply do is 102/4=25.5 divisions which is incorrect.

Let me explain: there can be either 1 division or 2 or 3 etc, that is number of divisions is always a whole number and never a fraction. There is nothing called 0.5 division. It is meaningless. So we take it as 1.

Now coming to the question for 102 chromosomes, the answer is 25+1=26

(25 divisions for 100 chromosomes and for another 2 we need 1 more division)

Hope you got it.

Thank you
