Answer:
Explanation:
Displacement reactions between metals and their salts. Some metals are more reactive than others. In this experiment, a strip of metal is added to a solution of a compound of another metal. A more reactive metal displaces (pushes out) a less reactive metal from its compound.

Experiment No. X
Aim: To show displacement reaction between metals and salt solutions.
Materials Required: Test-tube, Copper Sulphate Solution (aq), iron nail, sand paper etc.
Procedure:
- Fill half the test-tube with Copper Sulphate Solution.
- Clean the Iron nail properly with sandpaper.
- Put the iron nail into the test tube containing copper sulphate solution.
- After sometime, you will observe that (i) Blue color of copper sulphate solution changes to green and there is a brown coating on the iron nail.
Results:
- Iron displaces copper from copper sulphate solution to form iron sulphate solution, that is green in color.
- There is a brown coating of copper on the iron nail.
- The reaction is as below:
Fe + CuSO₄ -----------> FeSO₄ + Cu
Observations:
- Blue colored copper sulphate solution changes to light green colored iron sulphate solution.
- There is a brown coating of copper on the iron nail.
