Given :

• A cloth of 2 m 15 cm is needed to stitch a shirt.

To find :

• How many shirts can be stitched out of 40 m cloth and how much cloth will be left

Concept :

Here, we have to find the no. of shirt which can be stiched out of 40 m cloth and how much cloth will be left. So, firstly we will convert the length of cloth from m into cm. And then divide the total cloth by cloth required for 1 shirt. The value of quotient after dividing will be the number of shirts which can be stitched out of 40cm cloth and the remainder will be the remaining cloth.

Solution :

Converting the length of the cloth required for one shirt into cm :-

As we know,

• 1 m = 100 cm

So, to convert the value from m into cm multiply it by 100.

→ 2 m 15 cm

→ 2 m = 2 × 100 = 200 cm

→ Now, add 200 cm and 15 cm :-

→ 200 + 15 = 215 cm

Therefore, Length of cloth required for one shirt = 215 cm

Now, converting the length of the total cloth :-

→ 40 m = 40 × 100 = 4000 cm

Therefore, the length of the total cloth = 4000 cm

Number of shirts which can be made from the 4000 cm cloth = Total cloth ÷ Cloth required for one shirt

→ No. of shirts = 4000 ÷ 215

→ No. of shirts = 18.60

→ On rounding it off, we get :-

→ No. of shirts = 18

Therefore, number of shirts = 18

The length of remaining cloth left :-

→ Remainder = 130 cm

Therefore, length of the remaining cloth = 130 cm
