x+y = 9 → (1)

x-y = 1 → (2)

Adding (1)&(2)

2x = 10

∴x = 5

Substituting x=5 in (1) we get,

5+y = 9

y = 9-5 = 4

Thus, x=5 & y=4

Step-by-step explanation:

x+y=9

x-y=1

adding both equation

x+x+y+(-y)=9+1

2x+y-y=10

2x=10

x=5

put x value in Ist equation

x+y=9

10+y=9

y=9-10

y=-1

x=10,y=-1
