To understand what the displacement of
object is less than the distance travelled by the
object. A student will go from one corner of their
living room to the opposite corner by different
routes possible. They will measure the distance
travelled with a measuring tape. Now students
will measure the length of diagonal of the living
room and note their observations. They can try
same in other room also.

Explanation:
Consider 3 students( Abhay, Sumit and Harshit ).
In Living room:
Length of Sumit's living room is 8 m and breadth is 6 m, using his tape, he found the length of shortest path( or displacement ) joining the opposite ends is 10 m, by walking diagonally. When returning he chooses to go from opposite corner but by waling near the walls, so in this condition distance covered by him is 14 m( 8m + 6m ), measured by tape.
In Sumit's case Distance > Displacement. ( 14 > 10 )
Now Abhay( length & breadth of his living room is 4 m and 3 m ) performs the same activity, but after covering a distance of 4 m( of length ), he thinks to go back and go to the opposite corner from other side. So total distance covered is 11m (4m+4m+3m) Whereas dispacement is still not hindered as it's distance between inital and final position, when he walked diagonally, with the help of tape he got a displacement of 5m.
In Abhay's case: Distance > Displacement.( 11 > 5 )
Measure of Harshit's living are same as that of Abhay's living room. But as like Abhay, Harshit chooses to walk near the walls, so the distance traveled by Harshit is 7m( 3m + 4m ) whereas displacement is 5 m.
In Harshit's case: Distance > Displacement( 7 > 5 ).
They perform the same activity in other rooms, with the same methods as they opted earlier.
In Sitting room:
Sumit measured a distance of 7 m, whereas while walking diagonally we found that 5 m. Here too, distance > displacement.
Abhay measured a distance of 29 foot, whereas while walking diagonally he found that 13 m. Here also, distance > displacement.
Harshit measured a distance of 17 foot, where while walking diagonally, he found that 13m. Distance displacement.
In all the cases, activities performed by Abhay, Sumit and Harshit, they found that distance is always greater than displacement, no matter what measures, path, side we choose.
