influences the structures and outcomes of the various sociological debates which consequently reach different conclusions about how important, relevant and ‘real’ class still is in modern society. In the course of this essay I am going to analyse the major theories about class and how they inform the concept of social ‘identity’ as differentiated from the concepts of social ‘consciousness’ and social identification.
