to which group and period should hydrogen be assigned?why?​

Hydrogen has the valency of 1 so it can be placed in group 1 but it is also a halogen therefore it can be placed in 17th group also. With regard to period, it should be placed in the first period as the no. of shells in electronic configuration of hydrogen is 1.
