1)His most significant contribution to India was the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) which he helped to establish in 1969. The major objective of the organization is to advance space technology and apply it for national benefits.

2)Prior to this, he was the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (2007-2009). Dr. S. K. Shivakumar is an Indian scientist who was part of the team that  He is known for his contribution to the development of Indian launch vehicles,  of the Mission Readiness Review Committee for two Indian space programs.

3)Vikram Sarabhai. Vikram Sarabhai, in full Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai, (born August 12, 1919, Ahmadabad, India—died December 30, 1971, Kovalam), Indian physicist and industrialist who initiated space research and helped develop nuclear power in India. Sarabhai was born into a family of industrialists. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai was one of the greatest scientists of India. He is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space programme. In fact he was a rare combination of a scientist, an innovator, industrialist and a visionary.
