Answer:

If too many people are invoked in cooking a particular dish each might add a different ingredient which, in the end, spoils the entire dish. Likewise, when too many people take up a job or project, they are likely to make a mess of it due to lack of coordination. Unless there is proper planning and demarcation of responsibility, the job will not be done.

In the story Packing the three friends Jeromie, George and Harris had to do the packing. Jeromie had done his part and George and Harris had to pack the hamper carring food. They boh had no previous knowledge of packing and did not have any coordination among them. They firstly broke a cup, the Harris packed jam on the top of tomato and swuashed it, Harris sat on the butter. To make think worse Montmorency started troubling them by sitting on the things they wanted to get packed. He also put his leg inside the jam jar and squashed lemons pretending to believe them to be rats.

If they had co-ordination among them no mess wouldn't have happened.

‘Too many cooks spoil the broth’ means too many people doing one task.

In the story ‘Packing’ by Jerome K.Jerome, the narrator, along with his two friends George and Harris try to pack for a boating trip. Jerome begins with the packing, and opens up the bag once to put in the boots and takes every packed article out to locate his toothbrush. After finding it, he has to repack everything. George and Harris showed their expertise in packing by ‘breaking a cup’, followed by Harris’ squashing a tomato under the weight of the strawberry jam. They were utterly disorganised, which caused anxiety and resulted in bad packing techniques, squished pies, problems with the butter getting on the slipper, not going into the teapot, then not coming out. Montmorency did his bit by sticking a leg in the jam and squishing lemons.

The packing could have been done much earlier, had the three friends and the dog not been part of the exercise in such a disorderly manner. The tasks could have been divided and each person could have been responsible for the given task. That wouldn’t have led to so much confusion and squishing of food items. Thus, the saying ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’ applies rather well to this story.
