Interesting question. In the thirty years I've lived here, this is what I've observed:
The homogeneity has changed, with far more variation in skin tone.
More ethnic shops and stores owned by immigrant families. Brilliant choice of foodstuffs from all over the world.
The standard of driving and thoughtfulness of drivers has deteriorated.
Fewer car parking spaces, with the occasional parking "war" breaking out.
Far more loft extensions going up.
Schools all building like mad to find spaces for children.
English is not heard in the street as much anymore.
Overt hostility towards women from one ethnic group. Not nice, but they are a small minority.
Children and teenagers are far nicer than in my day; more likely to engage with us wrinklies.
Beer in my local is far nicer now and the choice of spirits is very welcome.
More public transport and on time-but very expensive.
Pub food is of a very good standard.
Far more fast food outlets and bookmakers (my local kebab restaurant is superb)
Libraries have all closed down.
People are more likely to talk to strangers.
The building of Crossrail is improving our local train station and surrounding area. Looking forward to the service being ready.
Far, far more traffic on the roads. Sundays used to be when you could enjoy driving but not now.
Better choices in the shops.
More people talking to themselves as they walk along the street (I know they are on their mobiles, but I come from a time when the only people who did that had mental problems).
Better street lighting.
The price of housing is bordering on the crazy.
Milder winters, wetter summers. Spring is coming earlier and winter later.
Very marked differences in wealth. Years ago, very few had much and the majority had little. Now the differences are very marked.
I love it here and will probably leave in my coffin.
