The sum of the current ages of a father and his son is 60 years. Six years ago, the father's age was five times the age of the son. How old will the son be in six years’ time?

Let father's age be “x” and son’s age be “y”

A/q, current age of father and son is 60 years.

I. E. x+y=60…..(i)

5 years ago,

Father's age=(x-5) and son’s age=(y-5)

And, father's age was 4 times of son’s age

I. E. (x-5) = 4(y-5)…. (ii)

= >x-5 = 4y-20

=>4y-x=16

Adding (i) and (ii)

(y+x=60) +(4y-x=16)

=>5y=74

=>y=74/5

So, son’s present age is 14 years and after 5 years his age will be (14+6)=20years.

Answer: Father's age is 45 and Son's age is 15.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let father's age be F and son's Age be S

So, F+S=60...(i)\\

5 Years Ago,

Father's age = F-5

Son's age = S - 5

ATQ, Father's age = 4 (Son's age)

F-5 = 4(S-5)\\F-5 = 4S-20\\4S-F=15...(ii)

Adding Equation (i) and (ii):

F+S=60\\4S-F=15\\5S=75\\S=75/5=15

F=60-S=60-15=45
