Given: The total expenses of running the hostel at Harvard business school are partly fixed and partly variable linearly with the number of boarders. The average expenses per boarder is $70 when there are 25 boarders and $60 when there are 50 boarders.

To find: What is the average expenses per boarders when there are 100 boarders?

Solution:

  • Let x be the fixed cost and y be the variable cost
  • Then according to the first statement , we have:

                  x + 25y = 70 × 25

                  x + 25y = 1750        ....................(i)

  • According to the second statement , we have:

                  x + 50y = 60 × 50

                  x + 50y = 3000       .....................(ii)

  • Now solving them by subtracting (i) from (ii), we get:

                     x + 50y = 3000

                  -  x - 25y = -1750

                          25y  =  1250

                  y = 50

  • Now putting y = 50 in (i), we get:

                  x + 25(50) = 1750

                  x = 1750 - 1250

                  x = 500

  • So the total expenses of 100 boarders  will be:

                  (500 + 50) × 100 = Rs. 5500

  • And average expenses will be:

                  Rs. 55000/100

                  Rs. 550

Answer:

               So the average expenses per boarders when there are 100 boarders is Rs 550.

Answer:

55$

Step-by-step explanation:

70×25=1750

60×50=3000

70×50=3500

3500-3000=500

1750-500=1250

1250/50=25

25ka double50

100×50+500=5500/100

=55$ answer
