The Gonds are one of the biggest tribes in South Asia. They are found in Central India (madhya Pradesh), northern Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and eastern Maharashtra.
EXPLANATION:
- The first factually documented Gond kingdoms had come up in central India’s hilly area in the 14th & 15th century A.D. Jadurai was the first Gond king, who had overthrown the Kalchuri Rajputs, whose court Jadurai had previously worked, grabbed the kingdom of Garha Mandla (modern Jabalpur and Mandla in Madhya Pradesh).
- The 2nd kingdom of Deogadh (Nagpur in Maharashtra and Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh), was established by King Jatba during the 15th century. At about the same period, the Kherla (Chikhaldara in Amravati district, Maharashtra and Baitul in Madhya Pradesh) kingdom had come up too.
- Its 1st king, Narsingh Rai, overthrew a Rajput king, and Narsingh Rai had a love-hate relationship with the Muslim and Rajput rulers in his neighbourhood who attacked his fort because of its geographical accessibility.
