Shahjahan son of Jahangir embarrassed the architecture, one example of which is the Taj Mahal. His campaigns of Deccan and northwestern had a heavy toll on the treasury. In the line, the next ruler was Aurangzeb, who was considered the most orthodox ruler of the Mughal empire. Although, the number of Hindu officials were highest in his Reign. His Deccan campaign proved to drain the imperial treasury and the disintegration of the empire began with his death.

  • The list of suspected crimes of Aurangzeb is long and serious. He was accused in Central and Southern India of fighting protracted & pointless wars, which fatally weakened the Mughal state. He is seen as a ruthless despot, who brutally murdered enemies, his brothers and sisters. He is considered a linguistic dolt, not interested in, not yet hostile to the exceptional arts of South Asia
  • Aurangzeb was a man of exceptional ability, rigor and hard work. In many respects, he was remarkable. His personal qualities were exceptional. He led a very simple life with a high standard of morality. He was so puritanical that he had prohibited music and driven the musicians & singers away from the court.
