Answer:

Myanmar, earlier known as Burma, was under the rule of the British. It gained freedom in 1948 and became a democracy. In 1962, democratic rule in the country came to an end with a military coup. After a gap of about thirty years, elections were held in the country. The National League for democracy headed by Aung San Suu Kyi emerged victorious in the elections but the military leaders of Myanmar refused to recognise the electoral results. Instead, many democratic leaders along with Aung San Suu Kyi were put under house arrest. Myanmar is still an undemocratic country and people have no rights to criticise the government. Aung San Suu Kyi is still fighting for the establishment of democracy in Myanmar.
