In North India, Bharatendu Harishchandra encouraged many members to translate novels written in different literature. Likewise many novels were translated. Among them, the first was written by Srinaivas Das of Delhi which was published in 1882. The name of the novel is Pariksha- Guru. This novel teaches a man the right way of living. However, this novel could not create many readers.
It was the writings of Devaki Nandan Khatri which created novel reading in public. His best seller novel was Chandrakanta.
The novel of Premchand had achieved excellence.
