Akbar the great gave her a peaceful offer of accepting the suzerainty of the Mughals and agreeing to become the vassal but she refused. In 1565,the Mughal force under Asaf Khan attacked Garh Katanga. A strong resistance was put up by rani Durgavati ,but she was defeated.
