The origin of consumer movement in India could be traced back in 1960s as a social force originated with the necessity of protecting and promoting the interest of consumer against the unethentic and unfair trade practices like adulteration, black marketing, hoarding,Rampant food storage till 1970s when consumer organisations were largely engaged in writing articles and holding exhibition, they formed consumer groups to look into the malpractices in ration shops and overcrowding in the road passenger transport because of these efforts the movement succeeded in bringing pressure on business firms as well as govt to correct business conduct whole over it led to major step by govt in the form of Consumer Protection Act passed in 1986 .
